Biography
Stephen H. MacDonald, DO, MPH, MBA
Dr. Stephen MacDonald was educated and trained at the world renowned Harvard University – School of Public Health in Boston, MA. As a practicing physician, he became interested in the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia as he experienced first hand the difficulty associated with treating patients who had sustained a work-related injury or illness, but were also suffering from underlying Fibromyalgia at the time of their injury event. In order to achieve a more successful treatment outcome, he began to search out a naturopathic remedy to improve the long term functional outcome of these patients. Thus began the process of creating the first fibrocuetical agents specifically formulated to provide direct benefit to those individuals suffering from Fibromyalgia as well as the myriad of accompanying subjective complaints that they also experience.
Dr. MacDonald is the Co-Medical Director of a hospital-based Occupational Medicine Department in Brevard County, Florida. He also serves as the Clinical Medical Director for a State of Florida Certified Workers’ Compensation Managed Care Arrangement, consisting of a multi specialty group of providers dedicated to the evaluation and treatment of work related injuries and illnesses.
He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from The Nova-Southeastern University ~ College of Osteopathic Medicine in Davie, Florida. He served an Internship in Family Practice at the Naval Hospital Pensacola, Florida followed by Aerospace Medicine / Flight Surgeon Training at the Naval Aerospace Medicine Institute in Pensacola, Florida. After serving a tour as the Director of Clinical Services and Headquarters Squadron Flight Surgeon at the Branch Medical Clinic, Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, SC, Dr. MacDonald then entered the Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency Program at The Harvard University ~ School of Public Health, Boston, Massachusetts. He has been awarded a Master of Public Health Degree from The Harvard University ~ School of Public Health in Occupational and Environmental Health, and Health Care Management as well as a Master of Business Administration Degree in Health Care Administration from The Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Florida.
Dr. MacDonald is Board Certified in Occupational Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine; Aerospace Medicine, by the American Osteopathic Board of Preventive Medicine; Health Care Quality and Management by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians; Forensic Medicine by the American Board of Forensic Medicine; Managed Care Medicine by the American Board of Managed Care Medicine; Pain Management by the American Academy of Pain Management; Healthcare Management by the American College of Healthcare Executives; and Medical Management by the American College of Physician Executives. In addition, he is Certified as an Independent Medical Examiner by the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners; a Certified Medical Review Officer by the Medical Review Officer Certification Council; and a Certified Senior Aviation Medical Examiner by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Dr. MacDonald is a Fellow of many Medical Specialty organizations. The status of Fellow is the highest classification of membership in a Medical Specialty organization. Fellowship distinguishes and recognizes members of the respective College for their academic and scientific accomplishments and contributions to the organization at the national, component and local levels. Dr. MacDonald is a Fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine; a Fellow of the American Osteopathic College of Occupational and Preventive Medicine; a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine; a Fellow of The American College of Healthcare Executives; a Fellow of The American College of Forensic Examiners; and a Fellow of the American Institute for Healthcare Quality.
Dr. MacDonald is the Past-President of the Florida Association of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and in addition, presently holds the Rank of Captain in the United States Navy Reserve.
